The "8 Minutes in the Morning" Plan

Jorge Cruise, the creator of 8 Minutes in the Morning, guarantees that you will lose two pounds per week without calorie counting or deprivation. All you need to do is set aside 8 minutes each morning to do the exercises recommended. The Jorge Cruise philosophy is that "aerobics and dieting are out and resistance training is in."

The whole idea behind this plan is that in order to restore your resting metabolism you need to build lean muscle. All you need to do is 8 minutes of exercise each morning Monday through Friday and stretches on Saturday. You must do the exercises in the morning since that is when your metabolism is the slowest; the 8 Minutes in the Morning diet plan will make you feel more energized and less stressed for the whole day. Sunday is supposed to be your day off, but you will need to plan your meals for the following week and hop on the scale to weigh yourself. That certainly isn't everyone's idea of a "day off."

What makes The "8 Minutes in the Morning" Weight Loss Plan different?

This diet places a large emphasis on exercise. While other weight loss plans see exercise as a supplement to a diet, this plan focuses on exercising to lose weight. The eating plan is based on a balanced diet using portion control and does not restrict any of the food groups; there are no good or bad foods.

What is The "8 Minutes in the Morning" Plan?

Step 1 of this plan involves exercise. Depending on which series of exercises you choose, you will be required to complete two to four exercises daily. Monday through Friday you will work different body parts and on Saturday you stretch.

Step 2 addresses diet. Here, you will learn about "The Cruise Down Plate," which is the plan's guide for all of your meals. You are to fill a 9-inch plate with 1/2 veggies, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbohydrates and 1 teaspoon of fat. If you are still hungry, you can have another plate of vegetables. You are recommended to avoid saturated fat and hydrogenated fats, and to increase your intake of flaxseed oil.

The "8 Minutes in the Morning" plan has 3 Rules of the Plate:

  1. Eat breakfast within one hour of rising.
  2. Eat every three hours.
  3. Stop eating three hours before bed.

There are no counting calories or banned foods as long you follow the Rules of the Plate. It is suggested, however, that you stick to certain calorie references for each food group, and there are lists of foods and appropriate serving sizes that fit into these ranges.

The plan also focuses on overcoming emotional eating and learning to eat only when you are hungry, not when you are sad, lonely, or stressed. To help overcome emotional eating, you are encouraged to enlist a support team by sending letters to your friends asking them for help. You can also become a member online and chat with fellow members and join in discussions with Jorge.

What are the weight loss expectations?

If you do the exercises each morning and follow the 8 Minutes in the Morning eating plan, you can expect to lose up to two pounds per week. Faster weight loss is not encouraged.

Is exercise promoted?

Yes, exercise is the focal point of this program. The focus is on resistance training, since that is what will build lean muscle mass and burn fat. Depending on which series of exercises you decide to do, you will focus on different muscle groups. Regardless of which series you do, you will only need to do 8 minutes in the morning.

You must do these exercises in the morning, since you will feel stronger, more energized, and less stressed the rest of the day. Exercising in the morning will boost your metabolism when it is normally at its lowest. Also, the morning is the easiest time to control, since it is easy to get caught up at work or have other commitments in the evening.

Aerobics or any other cardiovascular activity is not the focus here, although it is considered a bonus that keeps your heart strong. In fact, if you can, it is recommended to power walk three times a week.

Are supplements recommended?

Flaxseed oil is frequently mentioned as a good source of essential fatty acids and it is encouraged to add this to foods. A daily multivitamin is also recommended in the 8 Minutes in the Morning diet plan.
