Weight Watchers helps you become food smart.

I lost 50 lbs on Weight Watchers, and then hit a plateau, which is where I am now. It is slow and steady weight loss, which is the healthiest. I am now looking for ways to up my activity level to get to my goal; part of my plateau problem is due to a medical condition. I've seen many succeed on this program, and it's not a diet, it's a way of life. It's making smart choices, and portion control, which are easy to learn using their extensive user friendly website. Highly recommended.

I'm younger at 50 than I was at 44

I lost 60+ lbs with WW--I started in Sept 05 and reached my goal in July-6 weeks later I achieved free lifetime membership--My doctors are thrilled with my numbers. I have energy--I have confidence-- WW helps you lose weight by building you up emotionally--It cost alot, BUT our credit card bills went down (and It might be tax deductable)--we were eating out less and eating less expensive foods (than low carb, which I'd done without lasting results for years) without trying--

Good program but mileage can vary

Overall, I think WW is the best program out there. It's something that's realistic, balanced, and can be followed just for healthy eating.
The downsides are that the meetings can vary greatly in quality, depending on the leader. If you aren't getting a lot out of the meetings, try a different leader and it will be completely different.
Also I feel that they don't give enough attention to keeping the weight off, just losing it. But they have a good program to keep you coming to meetings even after you've lost your weight.

Healthy weight loss

I have always felt WW was a very healthy way to lose weight if you really stuck to it. i lost 83 pounds on it about 3 yrs ago and have kept it off. My Dr. says all my numbers are great. It's all a matter of wanting to be more healthy and to look better. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy but it's worth it.

RANT on PRICES
36 of 43 people found this review helpful
WW is getting less affordable and the leaders are repeating themselves more. Some people weigh in and leave, which I wouldn't do, but they are tired of the soft or hard sales pitches in the meeting rooms.
10 years ago WW gave a feeling of truly caring for all members. Now it seems to be caring for sales of artificial ingredients in WW packaged snacks.
The price is costly and recently scholarships to those with proof of low- income was stopped. These people paid a reduced weekly fee.
That made the meetings rooms more diverse and balanced.
Their corporate policies have tipped the scales in favor of pre-paid plans and weekly meeting fees that most lower incomes families cannot budget for.
Bring back the old policies and less sales in the meeting rooms!

This diet is great for teaching you how to eat healthily. If you want your points to stay low, you eat low point foods, ie, veggies, fruits, lowfat, high fiber, etc. I don't like that it's hard to find recipes that are quick, easy and relatively inexpensive but still relatively low point value. I would highly recommend it!!

It takes effort ... but its worth it

When I first started Weight Watchers, it was tough, but once you get the hang of it, its pretty simple. You learn how to eat healthy REAL food (your not substituting meals with unsatisfying bars or shakes) and you can use it for the long haul. I will never go back to the way I used to eat. Being on Weight Watchers makes me feel healthy and great!

I love Weight Watchers. I have tracked my points online for years and have a great historical log to look at. It fits in my busy schedule and I have the flexibility I need to entertain, go out to dinner.

WW has changed FOR THE WORSE
28 of 36 people found this review helpful
WW rooms now feature more selling of WW products than ever before. I think the leaders are more trained in sales than in nutrition.
I have lost over 100 lb. on WW and am happy with that, BUT WW International seems to have changed their community friendly philosophy and practices.
They used to offer lower-income weekly fees to lower income individuals, based on proof of income.
This is now not offered by the "company" in favor of pre-paid plans.
Low income individuals in my group could not budget for the lump sum pre-payments.
I see the new company policies as turning their backs on the less prosperous, yet faithful to WW members.

Must commit, but it works

The points system is a lot of work as you must count the points of everything you eat and jot it down. However, this makes you very aware of what you put in your mouth and it forces you to improve your eating habits. And it works, at least for me. I lost 25 pounds and kept it off 2 years. Then started a new job and a year later I'd gained back 8 pounds. Caught myself and went back on and am losing weight again. I feel healthier on WW and have higher self-confidence. I'm doing it on-line now, but groups are the best if you find a good leader and attendees.

Best Long-Term Plan
21 of 31 people found this review helpful
It took me a long time to make the flexibility work for me. It's easy to over-indulge because everything is allowed. But if you stick to the points you are alloted, especially if you work out, you will lose about a pound a week. It takes planning and perseverance but this is the only plan flexible enough for me to stick with, on vacations, holidays, eating out and whatever else comes up. The changes I'm making and the healthier habits I'm learning are going to stick for the rest of my life.

I did well while I was counting which for me is no big deal even with a child now. The first time around I had a partner (mom) who did the meetings with me and we were able to create meals that fit us more than anyone else in the house. Second time I've got a stick thin husband that can eat anything and thinks I can too. I just have to retrain him. I'm doing good this time but it is taking longer and I think it is because of not have the partner to encourage me.

A diet I can live with
15 of 26 people found this review helpful
I have been on weight watchers for years and although counting points can be tedious at times, it becomes a habit and something I just do every day. Now that there are so many weight watchers products out there that have the points already calculated, it is easier to find snack foods and desserts that fit into my plan. I no longer attend the meetings, but when I did go, it was really motivating and I always learned something new...maybe I should go back!

I dropped from 132 to 110 lbs!
13 of 25 people found this review helpful
I had carried an extra 25 lbs since having two kids -- around 5 yrs. a friend recommended WW & i was highly skeptical - it sounded too "suburban mall" for my lifestyle. but given that I have ZERO time to exercise, I was still able to lose. AND i've kept it all off, 3 yrs later. I learned certain basic food substitutions & portion control that has stuck. And i was really shocked how well it worked. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Realistic

Followed this diet with great success. Can be affordable if you do it on your own but the meetings can get expensive. Unfortunately for me, no meetings, no weight loss. Their online tools ROCK! The recipes are great and easy to cook. Bottom line... real food for real people for real weight loss. Amen.

Lost the Pregnancy Weight!

After two years of trying to lose the pregnancy weight on my own, I joined weight watchers. Within 3.5 months, I lost the 20 pregnancy pounds. I now fit into all my old suits. My goal was simple, I wanted to fit into clothes that were single digit in size...
