A Nutritionist Weighs in...

Overall, Sugar Busters! is well balanced and relatively easy to follow. It is also a diet you could follow when traveling. And, your whole family may be able to follow it. The plan recommends highly nutritious foods, although it's a bit mysterious why some foods (such as ripe bananas and carrots) are completely banned. It would be wise to follow the diet's example and eliminate many of the highly processed foods that have flooded supermarkets.

Emphasize fiber and whole grains and give up sugar, if you can

You may find it difficult to completely eliminate foods banned by this diet. Can you live without ever again drinking beer or cola? Are you ready to abandon French fries forever? Can you snack on something other than chips and cakes? If not, this plan may not be the right choice for you.

Diet Pros Diet Cons
  • No calorie counting
  • Encourages healthy foods
  • No elimination of food groups
  • No crash diet period
  • Many recipes provided
  • Easy to follow when eating out
  • A diet your whole family can follow
  • Can be challenging to avoid all processed foods
  • Eliminates many snack and convenience foods, requiring the preparation of many foods
  • Many recipes include the use of butter or cream, which are high in saturated fat
