A Nutritionist Weighs in...

This plan is a great long-term eating and exercise plan. It allows most foods and suggests balanced meals. Even vegetarians and meat lovers can find a healthy eating style on this diet. The exercise regimen is reasonable, so that many people can achieve success.

A big drawback is that there is no cut-and-dried weight loss plan. The diet suggests portion sizes and includes sample meals to allow for flexibility. What's missing is a very specific plan to follow.

Choose whole grains, limit bad fats, and you'll be golden

Knowing your portions is important in order to lose weight. This plan does not offer detailed information on appropriate servings. You might lose track and eat too much, thereby gaining weight. Using the meal plans to help guide you to correct portion sizes may help you, but you may need more details.

A great feature of the meal plans is that ones are given for different genders and activity levels. However, some menus are only created for a woman doing moderate activity. If you don't fit this profile and want to follow one of these menus, you will need to adjust the calorie and portion sizes to meet your specific needs - if only you knew how.

The plan offers no weight loss guidelines. What do you do once you lose the weight? There are no suggestions for how to maintain weight or for how much to increase portion sizes. This would be very helpful to ensure that you, who have worked so hard to lose weight, do not gain it back.

Taking the many recommended supplements could easily become expensive. And trying to remember when to pop which pill could become a nuisance. Following just the eating and exercise plan would probably be enough to enable weight loss and improve health. Consulting a health professional about the safety of so many pills is also important, especially if you are taking other medications or pills.
