A Nutritionist Weighs in...

The dLife Diet is a well-rounded plan for diabetics. The weight loss goals that are encouraged are safe, and foods from all food groups are promoted. Low-fat, sugar-free, and high-fiber choices are particularly encouraged to help diabetics maintain proper blood sugar levels and weight. Another nice element of this site is that friends of diabetics are welcome to join the dLife community in order help their diabetic friends and family have healthier lives.

If you have diabetes and are looking for an organized plan, this will work for you?

This plan is an organized diabetic dieter's dream. It has charts and graphs that allow users to follow their blood sugar levels, lab results, exercise regimens and meal plans. If diabetics are able to track these on a daily basis, it is very beneficial. Unfortunately, not all diabetics are as good at tracking their behavior as they should be. If you are one of those people who just won't track your food, exercise, and blood sugar levels on a daily basis, then you will be wasting your time by joining the site.

The articles, community, and other online resources are very well written and laid out. They are valuable resources for diabetics, but again, users have to be motivated to take advantage of them by sitting and reading through the material.

Diet Pros Diet Cons
  • Created specifically for diabetics on different medication regimens
  • Excellent online resources and support areas
  • Encourages interaction between doctors and the dLife site
  • Exercise is based on individual needs and abilities
  • Meal plans are available for diabetics with special needs (such as low sodium, vegetarian, or low protein for renal disease)
  • Meal plans can be individualized or pre-set
  • Many functions are geared towards diabetics, and are not necessary for the general public
  • Expensive monthly fee
