A Nutritionist Weighs in...

This diet focuses on helping those who suffer from chocolate addiction. The Chocolate Diet uses calorie restrictions, various psychological strategies and exercise to help curb chocolate cravings, and in turn, lose weight. The diet plan is pretty restrictive, as it only allows about 1000-1100 calories per day for women and 1300-1400 calories per day for men. Even with an additional 200-300 calories for chocolate, this is too few calories. Dieters will most likely be left hungry and frustrated.

No specific guidelines or explanations are given as to which foods are allowed versus prohibited. Further, dieters cannot be expected to stick to the limited choice of meal plans. It is also questionable as to why the diet allows for alcohol as a snack for most types of chocoholics. Although not recommended in large quantities, why would you want to recommend regular consumption of alcohol to a chocolate addict (possibly encouraging another common type of addiction)?

No need to indulge on this plan to lose weight…

The limited number of food and meal suggestions for this diet does not provide you with much guidance. The weight maintenance plan is a little more detailed and may be of better use to followers of this diet.

Allotted calories for each meal plan are only based on gender and nothing else (such as activity level). Most meal plans do not provide enough calories for dieters. Another possible frustration is the lack of weight loss guidelines. Many dieters want to know how quickly those pounds will be shed!

Sweets, including chocolate, are allowed after the first week. This is the huge advantage of choosing The Chocolate Diet, as opposed to the many others that shun sweets and junk food altogether. The luscious chocolate dessert recipes may also make tThe Chocolate Diet appealing to many.
