I have been doing this diet for almost a year. I did have a slide over the summer but I was still able to cut carbs and thought about what i ate. I only gained a few pounds during that time and have now lost a total of over 60 lbs. I have tried low-cal, low-fat, and many other diets and i can't stick to them and lose weight. I feel successful on this one and I really don't feel that hungry. Your body adjusts. I give it an A.

Atkins-off and on again!

The only really bad thing I can say about this diet is that its really easy to fall out of it!! But having had great success and then stopping and regaining all the lost weight I now have a comparison as to how good I can feel on this diet. This is the only diet I can honestly say I really feel better doing it than not! So its back to low carbing, the food is great, meals can be as quick and easy as you want. Do read and understand how the diet works and you will love it!!

My Opinion

I tried the diet for the first time in 2001. It was very easy to follow and I lost 40lbs in 3 months still occasionally eating sugar. 4 years later I got married and it was hard to maintain because my husband didn't eat the way I did, soon the temptation overwhelmed me and I gained back the 40lbs. I have been off an on the diet for the last year and I can say that I feel awful when I am off and consuming all the sugar and junk!! I also have arthritis in my hips which bothers me only when I cheat

This diet works!

The Atkins diet helped me lose the 40 pounds I gained during pregnancy. I didn't realize how great I felt on the diet until I hit my goal weight and started eating a lot of carbs again. Within a day, I felt sluggish and had a headache. I chose to follow the maintenance plan because I feel terrific. I've also had normal results at the doctor with blood work, etc. It's a healthy way to eat for life!!!!

Atkins for Life

I have been on Atkins for over a year and have lost over 76 pounds. This has become a way of life for me. I maintain a very low daily carb intake the majority of the time but am not a fanatic & do eat a few more some days than others. I love eggs, meat & cheese & am not a big veggie lover. I do like fruit but am satisfied with berries. A low carb crustless pumpkin pie with SF whipped cream is a real treat. The Atkins bars & shakes are great. My lab work keeps getting better & I feel great

Wonderful diet but difficult

Nutrition on this diet is practically perfect - IF you read the whole book and the theories. Bacon and Eggs are not encouraged, they are only allowed. Veggies are HIGHLY recommended, as well as nuts and fish and lean proteins.
Dropping the sugar habit takes about a week and is HARD, but it really works. I didn't believe I wouldn't crave sweets but sure enough those desires faded to nearly nothing after induction.

Atkins saved my life

I lost 95 pounds 4 years ago and have kept it off using Atkins and low carb principles. Before trying Atkins I was never able to stick with a diet for a long time or maintain my loss. I recently had a physical and my health and cholesterol levels are excellent despite 5 years of low-carb .

Atkins Rules

If you READ the book and follow the diet, you can easily loose weight. NO bad carbs, NOT no carbs, knuckle heads. You do eat carbs. READ the book or go online.

I love this diet

I have tried every diet including low fat. I lost weight for a while but eventually I stalled and I got sick of eating the food. I discovered the Atkins diet by accident. My husband was on it and I joined him. I lost 25 lbs. the 1st two weeks. The hardest part was the 2 weeks of induction. I felt that any diet I went on I would have to follow the rest of my life and if I don't eat white bread and sugar for the rest of my life I think that is not a bad thing. I eat more vegetables and salads then when I was on the low fat diet because I get to eat full fat dressings that taste good. I don't eat meat and cheese all day which is a common misconception. I lost over 60 lbs.

Atkins Diet Rocks!

I went on the Atkins diet 5 years ago. I weight 255 at the time (I'm male, 5'10") and kept a steady weight loss of about 7-10 pounds a month. After a year, I lost about 75 pounds.
I slowly weened myself off the diet and went to a more traditional, well rounded eating style. I now weight 155 and have found it easy to keep the weight off ever since.
If I didn't have the initial boost of energy and psychological success I felt from being on the Atkins diet, I don't think my success story would sound so easy.
Here's to the late Dr. Atkins!

I tried; I liked...

It took three months being on the program for me to say that I could live like this forever. I was content and I felt great. One thing that I didn't realize in my first attempts at trying Atkins was to read the ingredients. Just because something is low in carbs doesn't mean that it is legal -- it can't contain any form of sugar in order for the program to work properly. Give it a whirl! The worst it will be is the first three days -- after that it just gets better!

Like Grandma did

I feel that this is a throw back to the way our parent and grandparent ate. I used to live out of boxes and bags Instant pasta meal and cans or take out. But since doing Atkins I buy my food at the store and cook my food I eat healthy from ALL the food groups. If you really follow the diet it isn't really a diet it is changing your eating habits. It is mostly Veggi and whole grains and fruit. In the beginning yes there is mostly meat and cheese and but if that is all you eat your doing it wrong.

You can not cheat on this diet. That's good. Some foods I love don't love me. Others do. I eat like a king and the pounds drop. Heaven. Carbs were my habit. I am better off without them.

Lose weight fast .... and gain it back

Atkins sounds great on paper, eat all the red meat that you want, but give up all the carbs. This was a lot harder than I thought. I dropped weight fast, but this isn't for the long term.

lost and found weight

i did atkins a while back - i was admittedly trying to use the diet to drop some quick weight before a big event. it worked - after 2 weeks of 'inception', i had dropped upwards of 10 pounds. i eased into the second phase...and quickly gained every single pound back. i stuck with it for 3 more weeks and lost maybe 2-3 pounds...really not worth it. i think the initial weightloss flush with this diet seems to be mostly water. also, it feels unhealthy to be always eating meat and cheese - much more sodium than i am used to, and my digestion suffered. i won't be doing it again, mainly for how sick it made me feel.
